July 2. Clear and pleasant. Resumed coaling ship at 5:30.

Barometer rising. 


Finished coaling at 5:30 PM, having taken in all 570.63 tons. Cool toward evening. 

Wrote to J. 


July 3. Clear and cool. At 6 :00 the "Brutus" left ship and took her usual berth. Sent an officer to the Taunanga, Tutahekai, and Cormoran to give notice of the intention to dress ship tomorrow and fire a salute at noon. 


Rain during afternoon. Mate Larson was restored to duty.


Had evening quarters. 

Passing rain showers during night.
