July 1. The boys in the whale boat brought me a bouquet of roses from the shore with above Birthday Card – Senders name inside of card. A little girl, age 11, who's acquaintance I made while on shore, (through an uncle, one Mr. Steers, who owns the Apia Hotel at Samoa) was the giver. Was 24 years old this day of our Lord. 

Clear and pleasant. Crew still coaling ship. The Captain returned the visit of the Captain of the New Zealand Government ship the Tutanekai (pronounced Tutonica). Quit coaling at 5:30. Very warm.
